Mesmerizing Mae Hong Son

Unlike what I am used to spending the weekend or holiday season in Singapore or going on a short oversea trip, going on a road trip with 4x4back2nature can be a whole different experience. I had a chance to go on a 22-days road trip to Northern Thailand in 2016. Literally me and the group were living on the road, as we spent most the time traveling. With our 4x4 packed with daily necessities and camping equipment , we can sleep everywhere and go almost anywhere, Offroad too!

Most of Thailand forested and mountainous area are preserved as National Park , campsite are setup at scenic area. The Thai themselves enjoy camping as well. With accessible toilet , some even has hot bath. The campsite are very clean and well kept, no wonder it's a joy camping in Thailand.

Our first taste of  camping in Thailand were in Mae Surin National Park in the province of Mae Hong Son. Not exactly camping  but close as we slept in small wooden hut no bigger than a 3-men tent. Erected on bamboo platform above the ground, cold air seeped in from every opening as we shivered throughout the night in our sleeping bag. We would be better off sleeping in a tent, however as most were tired? lazy or perhaps still unreluctant to get into the "camping" mode. Actually in Thailand rental of tent is available in most campsite, including this one that we were going to spend the night. I guess we will have plenty of chances to sleep in a tent later on.

The next morning we stopped by a roadside cafe for some coffee. We met a highly spirited man in his nineties apparently high in his drink as well, chanting names of a few Chinese revolutionary leaders. From his gesture it seems like he has great admiration for these people. Backing up our memories onto the cameras, we bid farewell to this interesting old man and went on the road again to find our next campsite.
