Sungai Emas 4WD Trip 2014

Our annual off road trip to Malaysia's Endau Rompin National Park the area is also known as Sungai Emas to the locals. Our purpose there was also to test some of our newly built 4WD as well as to test out some new equipment.  The group consist of a total of 6 vehicle, 4 long wheel base and 2 short. 1 x Hilux ,1 x Isuzu TF , 2 x Landcruiser 80 , 1 x Landcruiser 40 and 1 x Landcruiser 2 70 series.

Best Performing Vehicle

This trip proved to be a challenge for the LC80s as they are the heavy weight among the group, but they managed well. Our aim was to reach Campsite One on the first day but due to some breakdown we decide to reside at half camp to rest for the night. Did some bush repair the next morning and off we went to Campsite One.

In summarized, we had a broken front wheel hub bolts, shattered windscreen, broken shock and spring mountings and a missing coilspring , but we managed to retrieve it. Camped at Campsite One for two nights and on the fourth day morning, we made our exit. The way out was smoother even though it was exactly the same route that we came in by.

Campsite One

Overall the long wheel base perform better on this trail. Although one LC80 lost transmission at the very end and had to be towed back to Johor Bahru. This same vehicle also had its tires coming off its beads. An equipment we tested on this trip is the internal beadlocks from InnerAirLock. The other two vehicle having the beadlocks on did not encounter this issue. The 37" Maxxis Trepador has history of the coming off the bead easily. However this tire seems to have better grip and less slippery than the Simex Extreme Trekker, especially during log crossing. No shaft damage this time round because all vehicle are on chromolys. The Four links , Three links are given grounds to prove themselves.

Everyone felt satisfied and accomplished after this trip. We will be back for more !

A prelude of what will be coming up next on our videos update

Our first obstacle was a heap of fallen trees. Armed only with machete and teamwork we manage to clear barely enough for our 4x4 to crawl through. LWB has their advantages here as seen in the video.  , while all the SWB required winching. Next obstacle was a breeze for all.
