LC40 Rear Suspension

The inspiration for 4x4back2nature Singapore logo , will be this iconic red 40 Series Toyota Landcruiser. Now this Landcruiser went into TBK Offroad Performance for a rear suspension upgrade. 

Completed Final Look

Current Specification:

Engine             :  Toyota 15b

Transfer Case :  FJ60/H55F

Axle                 :  FJ80 Swap Front & Rear 

Shocks/Bump  :  2.5" Sway-a-way remote reservoir 10" travel.

                           2" Sway-a-way 4" travel bump

Proposed Upgrade items:

- 2" Aluminium alloy links 

- Trail-Gear 4340 Rod Ends & Creeper Joint  

- Trail-Gear assorted link brackets 

- Trail-Gear 16" limit Strap

The Job

FJ80 axle are pretty strong and popular swap here , as all spare parts of the axle are easily available. However their rear axle differential is not centered. And an off-centered FJ60 transfer case may be a perfect match. The position proved to be tricky for the suspension design as Mr Tay from TBK Offroad Performance suggest a dual triangulated four link suspension. Careful design and calculation has to be made for this to work. 


Mr Tay started off with a custom fabrication of a lower link cross-member bracket with steel plating and Trail-Gear assorted link brackets. This bracket also serves as a protection for the transfer case. TG 5/8" Creeper Joint are use on the end of the lower links and according to Mr Tay this will give him a more controlled drop angle to his desire rather than using the rod ends which had a larger flex angle. 

Special Fabrication from TBK Offroad Performance

As the axle differential are off-centered , we are unable to get the right axle upper link bracket , so we need a custom bracket. Coil Spring brackets are raised to accommodate the increase flexibility. Shocks and bumps are relocated to a more ideal location. Adding a 16" Trail-Gear limit strap is just an additional protection for the Racerunner shocks.
